Well it has been several months since JoniBeth first asked us to "babitize" her. Whatever the situation was, if she saw another person being baptized or if she heard scripture or just a simple VBS - "ABC" presentation she would come home and say...I want to be babitized.
Of course we would ask her questions like "why?" or "have you sinned today?"
And her usual responses would be "I don't know why" or "so I can be a Christian" or "nope I haven't sinned" which are like anyone who is not sure of the Gospel and who has not had the stirring of God's spirit in their heart. We would always pray for her to understand sin and for God to bring her to that place of understanding.
Last Wednesday night we were talking and once again Joni asked me to baptize her and once again I asked her why...this time Joni looked at us and said something I knew was from her heart. My 7 year-old walked over to my backpack and while touching it she said..."my heart is black like your bag daddy"...then she walked over to our curtains and said..."and I want it to be white like this." I was speechless...then she rounded it out by saying "I want God to be King of my life". Wow...
So I told her to pray exactly what she told me...but to God...and she did. Then she asked me to "babitize" her in the ocean...which we did on the 4th of July. To see her simple way of understanding OUR position is incredible and humbles me. We have darkness in our hearts and Christ can make it pure. For her it took some time for God to work and her to understand that we all have sin and darkness in us.
Do you want light in your life?
John 1:4 NASB In Him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the Light of men.
John 3:20 NASB For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
John 8:12 NASB Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
